Scheduled Air Transportation in Canada Industry Data and Analysis

Analyst New York, United States July 2026

Scheduled air transportation revenue rebounded from its pandemic contraction. However, the recovery has been uneven. When COVID-19 shuttered borders, airlines converted passenger jets into freighters to offset collapsing passenger revenue. This enabled cargo to serve as a brief lifeline while profit lagged, reaching just 2.0% in 2021 because carriers rebuilt capacity. The recovery then accelerated because pent-up leisure demand and higher per capita disposable income lifted bookings. Falling crude oil prices reduced the largest cost input for scheduled air transportation. A surge in overseas travel and steady domestic demand carried the sector forward, even as the Iran conflict pushed jet fuel prices sharply higher in 2026 and placed downward pressure on profit. Revenue climbed at a CAGR of 27.5% during the current period. It reached $33.1 billion in 2026 on year-over-year growth of 1.1%.
